It explains that ideally a fixed relationship should be chosen between equivalent airspeed and weight and retained for all climbs. However, provided maximum rate of climb is being measured the error in using a fixed schedule of equivalent airspeed and height is negligible. Based on the relationship developed in ESDU PERF RT 1\/0 the graph plots rate of climb divided by root relative temperature and, in this case, jet pipe temperature divided by root relative temperature although it could equally have been turbine inlet temperature or propeller pitch angle.
