In accordance with IMO Resolution MSC.166(78), this document applies to Marine electromagnetic compasses installations fitted before 1 July 2002. Marine electromagnetic compasses installed on or after 1 July 2002 applies the requirements of <span class=\"std\"><span class=\"std-ref\">ISO 22090-2<\/span><\/span>. The magnetic compasses specified in this document shall apply to the ships the overall length of which is normally not less than 24 m. In this context an electromagnetic compass is an item of electronic equipment which uses the geomagnetic field to obtain information about the ship&#8217;s heading. This information is conveyed to the main compass (which is used for steering and taking bearings), to additional repeater indicators and, if required, to other navigational equipment.<\/p>\n<div class=\"non-normative-note\">\n<div class=\"note-label\">\n  NOTE\n <\/div>\n<p>All requirements that are extracted from the recommendations of IMO resolutions are printed in italics.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><b>BS ISO 11606.
