These requirements cover secondary containments for aboveground primary tanks intended for the storage of flammable and combustible liquids such as gasoline, fuel oil, or similar products with a relative density not greater than 1.0. These containments consist essentially of vented enclosures having capacities of not less than 110% of the total capacities of the primary storage tanks. The calculation of this capacity includes any part of the primary tank that would be submerged in the containment.

These containments are designed to accommodate primary tanks having maximum capacities of 5000 L, constructed in accordance with one of the following Standards:

  • ULC-S601, Standard for Shop Fabricated Steel Aboveground Horizontal Tanks for Flammable and Combustible Liquids
  • CAN/ULC-S602, Standard for Aboveground Steel Tanks for Fuel Oil and Lubricating Oil
  • ULC-S630, Standard for Shop Fabricated Steel Aboveground Vertical Tanks for Flammable and Combustible Liquids
  • CAN/ULC-S643, Standard for Shop Frabricated Steel Aboveground Utility Tanks for Flammable and Combustible Liquids.
