The definition of this Enterprise Canonical Model is a “single source of truth” for semantic definitions, so that all enterprise business applications and middleware technologies can use it to speak to each other for commerce worldwide, for Enterprise Applications such as ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), Purchasing, Order Management, Customer Management and more. The intended long-term scope is to enable integration of all current and future Enterprise Applications. Other applications of canonical model include business intelligence and reporting, to normalize and aggregate business data across applications to provide a consistent vocabulary to generate business insights.
This part specifies the Architecture of an Enterprise Canonical Model. It defines the Abstract Model, Conceptual Model and Physical Model used in the following parts of this specification.
